NFNS Director: Mrs. Amy Gahman
Mrs. Gahman is entering her 4th year as director at NFNS. She lives in Green Lane with her husband, Daryl and 3 daughters Aubrey (11) who attends Indian Valley Middle School and Riley (9) and Clara (6) who attend Salford Hills Elementary. They have a black lab named Winnie. Mrs. Gahman has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology with concentrations in Early Childhood Development and Experimental Psychology from Lebanon Valley College. She spent many years working The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and currently substitute teaches throughout the Souderton School District.
Mrs. Gahman attends IVFF where she volunteers her time in the Children’s Ministry and is a Senior High youth leader. Mrs. Gahman enjoys spending time with her family and friends, camping and cheering her daughters on at dance, swim, softball and anything else the decide to try that year! During the Spring and Fall you will find her on the softball field coaching for Harleysville Girls Softball. Mrs. Gahman is always excited to spend her days at NFNS with all the wonderful children that come through our doors!
Head Teacher: Mrs. Heidi Borisow
Mrs. Borisow is excited to be a part of New Friends Preschool as a Head Teacher. Mrs. Borisow received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Arcadia University. Mrs. Borisow has taught at many different levels - 2 year olds, 3 year olds, Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade. She has enjoyed them all! Mrs. Borisow has taught in a public school (Pennridge), a private school (Penn View), a child care center (Salford Mennonite) and the Harleysville YMCA. In between teaching opportunities, she was able to stay at home with my children, for 14 years.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family! Mrs. Borisow lives in Harleysville with her husband, Eric, my 3 children, Juliana (18), Adam (15) and Angela (13) and several pets. She is an animal lover and nature enthusiast! She enjoys running, walking, swimming and anything outside! She also enjoys relaxing and reading a good book. You may also see her on the sport fields. Mrs. Borisow is a coach for Lacrosse and Field Hockey throughout the year. She loves coaching summer camps and introducing these sports to young beginners! Mrs. Borisow and her family attend Zion Mennonite Church located on Cherry Lane in Souderton. She currently teaches Bible Mania for 2-5 graders. She also enjoys organizing and leading the annual Egg Hunt! Mrs. Borisow has had the opportunity to teach Children’s Church, Sunday School (multiple ages), Children’s Choir, and was the Vacation Bible School Director for many years! Mrs. Borisow and her family enjoying helping wherever needed!
Head Teacher: Mrs. Kathleen Benner
Mrs. Benner is excited to be returning to NFNS for her second year teaching. Mrs. Benner lives in Harleysville with her husband, Eric, and her four boys Mason (11) who attends Indian Valley Middle School and Logan (10), Dylan (8) and Carson (6) who all attend Oak Ridge Elementary School. They have a black lab named Bo who loves to get into all sorts of trouble! Mrs. Benner has a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education for the Visually Impaired and Elementary Education from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. She began her career working as an Early Intervention Teacher for the Visually Impaired for the Bucks County Intermediate Unit before starting her family. Mrs. Benner was a stay-at-home mother to her boys for about 7 years before working as a Preschool Teacher for the North Penn YMCA. She worked for the North Penn YMCA for the past 3 years and in addition, was a long-term substitute for New Friends Nursery School in the spring of 2017.
Mrs. Benner and her family are members at IVFF. Mrs. Benner has many hobbies which include exercising, reading and spending time with her family by their new swimming pool!
Assistant Teacher: Mrs. Colleen Leatherman
Mrs. Leatherman is a graduate of Montgomery County Community College with an Associate’s degree in social work. Mrs. Leatherman has previously run a group home for disabled adults and worked for the North Penn VNA. She enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, Emma (11), Avery (9) and Jacob (8). As a family they enjoy camping, swimming, softball and playing with their dog.
Assistant Teacher: Mrs. Kendra Landry
Mrs. Landry is entering her second year at NFNS. Mrs. Landry graduated from the Community College of Rhode Island where she earned an associate’s degree in liberal arts. She holds certifications in nursing assistance, as well as one in veterinary assistance. Mrs. Landry has been happily married to her husband Dean for over 32 years, and they have 4 amazing adult children and 5 wonderful grandchildren. In her spare time, Kendra loves to read, travel, and enjoy time with her grandchildren as often as possible!
Mrs. Landry is a member at IVFF and her husband, Dean is the Senior Pastor. Mrs. Landry volunteers her time in the Children’s ministries including assisting in Kids Clubs and VBS.
Assistant Teacher: Mrs. Tiffany Landis
Mrs. Landis is entering her 7th year at NFNS, Mrs. Landis is a graduate of Messiah College with a BS in Elementary Education and Special Education. She and her husband Joel live in Telford and attend Franconia Mennonite Church. Mrs. Landis and Joel have 2 daughters Clara (4) who attends NFNS and Susanna (10 months). They also have a small "farm" with a flock of chickens and two cats named Knox and Charley.
On her days off from New Friends Mrs. Landis used to teach at Hilltop Preschool but now she enjoys those days at home with Clara and Susanna.
Library Teacher: Mrs. Barbara Moyer
Barbara is a graduate of Gwynedd Mercy College with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Moyer attends LCBC Church with her family. She was a former preschool teacher at Indian Valley Nursery School and a kindergarten teacher at Quakertown Christian School. Mrs. Moyer and her husband Randy live in Souderton with their 3 daughters - Cara, 16, entering 10th grade at Souderton High School, Chloe, 9, entering 4th grade at West Broad Elementary and Claire, 8, entering 3rd grade at West Broad Elementary. Her hobbies include gardening, crafting and shopping for a good bargain.
Wednesday Enrichment & Substitute Teacher: Mrs. Alicia Alderfer
Alicia was one of New Friends’ first teachers when the school began in 1987. In 2000, she stayed home to be with her two children, Corrine and Trent, who are now 19 and 16. Although substituting during those years, in 2013 she returned to teach the Wednesday Enrichment class. Mrs. Alderfer has an associate degree in Early Childhood Education from MCCC, and additional schooling at Gwynedd Mercy College for her Pennsylvania Teaching Certification for Private Preschool and Kindergarten. She also has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Albright College. Alicia attends Indian Valley Faith Fellowship where she teaches Sunday School for preschoolers, serves on the missions committee and sings on the worship team. She lives with her husband, Dan, and family in Schwenksville where they enjoy biking together. Mrs. Alderfer also enjoys volleyball, bowling, and quilting.
Music Teacher: Mrs. Melanie Roberts
Melanie Roberts graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) with her degree in Music Education. Melanie was invited for internships in both choral and instrumental music for elementary students, while at university. She plays a wide variety of instruments, with her concentration being clarinet. Melanie taught Gym and Music at the Kinder Works Preschool in Doylestown for four years, then she began teaching Music Together Classes to be able to stay home more with her children. Melanie taught the program for three years before becoming owner and director in January of 2010 - the business is now called Littlest Music Makers, LLC. She has taught private lessons and teaches parent/child classes, as well as her visits to preschools and daycares.
When Melanie is not teaching music, she is caring for her chickens, bunnies and dogs. She enjoys exercising, hosting dogs in her home while families go away and she loves to read. She also enjoys cooking healthy meals and learning about natural health.
Melanie and her husband live in Harleysville with their 2 daughters, age 12 and 10 and their son, age 7.
