NFNS Director: Mrs. Amy Gahman
Amy has been with New Friends Nursery School for 3 years. She lives in Green Lane with her husband, Daryl and 3 daughters Aubrey (10), Riley (8) and Clara (5) who all attend Salford Hills Elementary. They have a black lab named Winnie. Amy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology with concentrations in Early Child Development and Experimental Psychology from Lebanon Valley College. She spent many years working The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and currently substitute teaches throughout the Souderton School District.
Amy attends IVFF where she volunteers her time in the Women’s Ministry and is a Senior High youth leader. Amy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, spends a lot of time camping/traveling, cheering her daughters on at dance, swim, softball and anything else the decide to try that year! During the Spring and Fall you will find her on the softball field coaching for Harleysville Girls Softball. Amy is always excited to spend her days at NFNS with all the wonderful children that come through our doors!
Head Teacher: Mrs. Brenda Hartley
Brenda has a dual Early Childhood and Elementary Education degree from Millersville University. She pursued further Master’s studies in Bible and Counseling at Biblical Theological Seminary and has a certificate in Biblical Studies. Brenda has taught 4th grade at Cornerstone Christian Academy and Kindergarten at The Christian Academy. She enjoyed being a stay at home mother and home schooling her children for 8 years prior to teaching at New Friends. Brenda lives in Pennsburg with her husband Paul, their two teenagers, Nathaniel and Alyssa, and a Boston Terrier named Hudson. Nathaniel will begin college in the fall and Alyssa will be a sophomore in high school.
Mrs. Hartley is in her 5th year teaching at New Friends and loves teaching young children! She believes learning should be fun and engaging at any age-especially preschool/pre-K. In her free time she enjoys gardening, reading, anything creative and crafty, and spending time with her family.
Head Teacher: Mrs. Kathleen Benner
Kathleen lives in Harleysville with her husband, Eric, and her four boys Mason (10), Logan (9), Dylan (7) and Carson (5) who all attend Oak Ridge Elementary School. They have a black lab named Bo who loves to get into all sorts of trouble! Kathleen has a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education for the Visually Impaired and Elementary Education from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. She began her career working as an Early Intervention Teacher for the Visually Impaired for the Bucks County Intermediate Unit before starting her family. Kathleen was a stay-at-home mother to her boys for about 7 years before working as a Preschool Teacher for the North Penn YMCA. She worked for the North Penn YMCA for the past 3 years and in addition, was a long-term substitute for New Friends Nursery School in the spring of 2017.
Two years ago, Kathleen and her family started attending services at IVFF and have made many new friends there! She enjoys volunteering at their summer Vacation Bible School program. Kathleen has many hobbies which include exercising, reading and spending time with her family by their new swimming pool. She is looking forward to her first year as a teacher at New Friends Nursery School!
Assistant Teacher: Mrs. Connie Coombs
Connie is a graduate of Cairn University (formerly Philadelphia Biblical University) and has a bachelor's degree in Bible. She has been an active member of IVFF since 2008, serving in children's ministry, directing Vacation Bible School, Women's ministry and leads a small group along with her husband, Dana. She also worked at Lifeway Christian Stores (formerly Provident Bookstores) in Souderton for over 19 years. She and her husband Dana have twin girls, Maddy & Libby (graduates of NFNS!), who are 10, entering fifth grade at Oak Ridge Elementary School. Connie loves to travel (especially to Disneyworld!), spend time at her pool with the family, and also enjoys knitting and shopping for a great bargain. Connie is very excited to work at NFNS this year!
Assistant Teacher: Mrs. Colleen Leatherman
Colleen is a graduate of Montgomery County Community College with an Associate’s degree in social work. Colleen has previously run a group home for disabled adults and worked for the North Penn VNA. Colleen enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, Emma (10), Avery (8) and Jacob (7). As a family they enjoy camping, swimming, softball and playing with their dog.
Assistant Teacher: Mrs. Kendra Landry
Kendra graduated from the Community College of Rhode Island where she earned an associate’s degree in liberal arts. She holds certifications in nursing assistance, as well as one in veterinary assistance. Kendra has been happily married to her husband Dean for over 32 years, and they have 4 amazing adult children and 5 wonderful grandchildren. In her spare time, Kendra loves to read, travel, and enjoy time with her grandchildren as often as possible!
Assistant Teacher: Mrs. Tiffany Landis
Tiffany is a graduate of Messiah College with a BS in Elementary Education and Special Education. She and her husband Joel live in Telford and attend Franconia Mennonite Church. Mrs. Landis and Joel have a three year old daughter named Clara and are expecting their second child in November. They also have a small "farm" with a flock of chickens and two cats named Knox and Charley. On her days off from New Friends Mrs. Landis used to teach at Hilltop Preschool but now she enjoys those days at home with Clara.
Library Teacher: Mrs. Barbara Moyer
Barbara is a graduate of Gwynedd Mercy College with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Moyer is a member of Souderton Mennonite Church where she is active in both children's ministry and women's ministry. She was a former preschool teacher at Indian Valley Nursery School and a kindergarten teacher at Quakertown Christian School. Mrs. Moyer and her husband Randy live in Souderton with their 3 daughters - Cara, 15, entering 9th grade at Souderton High School, Chloe, 8, entering 3rd grade at West Broad Elementary and Claire, 7, entering 2nd grade at West Broad Elementary. Her hobbies include gardening, crafting and also shopping for a good bargain (like her sister Connie Coombs!).
Wednesday Enrichment & Substitute Teacher: Mrs. Alicia Alderfer
Alicia was one of New Friends’ first teachers when the school began in 1987. In 2000, she stayed home to be with her two children, Corrine and Trent, who are now 19 and 16. Although substituting during those years, in 2013 she returned to teach the Wednesday Enrichment class. Mrs. Alderfer has an associate degree in Early Childhood Education from MCCC, and additional schooling at Gwynedd Mercy College for her Pennsylvania Teaching Certification for Private Preschool and Kindergarten. She also has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Albright College. Alicia attends Indian Valley Faith Fellowship where she teaches Sunday School for preschoolers, serves on the missions committee and sings on the worship team. She lives with her husband, Dan, and family in Schwenksville where they enjoy biking together. Mrs. Alderfer also enjoys volleyball, bowling, and quilting.
Music Teacher: Mrs. Melanie Roberts
Melanie Roberts graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) with her degree in Music Education. Melanie was invited for internships in both choral and instrumental music for elementary students, while at university. She plays a wide variety of instruments, with her concentration being clarinet. Melanie taught Gym and Music at the Kinder Works Preschool in Doylestown for four years, then she began teaching Music Together Classes to be able to stay home more with her children. Melanie taught the program for three years before becoming owner and director in January of 2010 - the business is now called Littlest Music Makers, LLC. She has taught private lessons and teaches parent/child classes, as well as her visits to preschools and day cares.
When Melanie is not teaching music, she is caring for her chickens, bunnies and dogs. She enjoys exercising, hosting dogs in her home while families go away and she loves to read. She also enjoys cooking healthy meals and learning about natural health.
Melanie and her husband live in Harleysville with their 2 daughters, age 11 and 9 and their son, age 6.
